Direct attention

The pace of the modern world significantly reduced people's attention span. We've become easily distracted while being overloaded with tons of information. Learning how to direct your attention consciously is a vital skill.

Energy flows where attention goes

Your day is usually organized around a bunch of activities, smaller goals, tasks, and chores. When you just follow a todo list or calendar events, you produce results that may be separated from your bigger goals. That leads to ineffective efficiency — a lot is done, but you don't feel satisfied.

Once you start each of your activities or tasks with a bigger goal in mind, you generate meaningful progress in the areas that really matter to you. You direct your energy to important and fulfilling, creating a compounding effect of accomplishments that will make you happier.

Goals map

The best way to see what you spend your energy on is to outline all your daily activities and connect them to bigger goals. After you have the Panorama view of your goals, you will quickly get valuable insights about 3 types of activities:

  • Stop doing — existing activities that are not connected to any of the bigger goals
  • Start doing — missing activities that support the bigger goals
  • Keep doing — existing activities connected to the bigger goals that make you genuinely happy

After this reflexive exercise, you can postpone the activities and goals that don't serve your needs and add new ones that do.
